Two red-hot NBA teams meet Friday night in the desert with the Phoenix Suns hosting the Utah Jazz. The Suns have just opened as five-point favorites (no overnight line) as the Jazz are dealing with the questionable status of two key contributors, PG Deron Williams and F Andrei Kirilenko.
Utah has seemingly been red hot ever since we changed the calendar to 2010 and has won and covered six of their last eight. Both losses, to Milwaukee and to Oklahoma City, came on the road. They are off back to back blowouts of two terrible teams, Washington and Minnesota, at home by margins of 23 and 22 points. Wednesday’s 122-100 win over the T’wolves ran the Jazz’s ATS mark to a perfect 11-0 when hosting an unrested visitor this season.
It also bodes well for tonight as the team is 10-3 ATS off a win by 15 or more points this year and 3 for 3 at the betting window when off consecutive wins by 15 or more. They are also 7-2 ATS off a win by 20 or more points and a perfect 4-0 ATS off a cover as a double-digit favorite.
Phoenix is also off back to back double-digit wins. They set a NBA season-high for most points scored in a game with Tuesday’s 152-116 demolition, also over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Needless to say both teams will be stepping up in class here. Unlike the Jazz, blowout wins do not bode well for the Suns as they are just 1-5 ATS off a home win by 20 or more points this season.
These teams have met twice since the 1st of the year with Utah winning and covering both times. They averaged 120 points per game in the two wins, one at home by a 124-115 margin as seven-point home favorites and the other a 116-108 upset here in Phoenix as three-point underdogs.
The total for this game is predictably high at 222. Phoenix averages over 112 PPG at home while allowing over 106 PPG overall. Utah’s scoring average does dip noticeably on the road, to 100.2 PPG, which is three points lower than their overall season average.
